how to Stay Properly Hydrated

Are You Really Hydrated or Just peeing A lot?

One statement that drives me crazy as a wellness consultant is when people say, “I’m drinking so much water, I have to be hydrated. I’m peeing all the time!” but if you think about it you’ll realize that if your body was truly absorbing and retaining the water, you wouldn’t be peeing so much! So, if you’re drinking lots of water, but peeing a lot - we need to make a few small adjustments and THEN you’ll be properly hydrated and begin reaping the benefits.

And the best part, once you’re truly hydrated - you won’t be running to the bathroom every 5 minutes. Probably only a few time a day…which is what you want!

Why Water Doesn’t Hydrate Us

Water is essential for hydration, but there’s a few reasons it no longer hydrates us as effectively as we need it to.

Modern water treatment processes remove important minerals like magnesium, calcium, and potassium, which are required for our bodies to absorb and retain water. Without these minerals, our bodies become dehydrated. Additionally, water quality can play a role—many sources today contain contaminants or chemicals that disrupt our body's ability to properly absorb water.

Another factor is electrolyte imbalance. When we sweat, we lose water as well as key electrolytes like sodium and potassium. Drinking bottled or tap water without replenishing these electrolytes leaves us feeling dehydrated and fatigued. To stay fully hydrated, it’s important to balance water intake with proper electrolytes, either through food, supplements, mineral-rich water, or drinks designed to support hydration and electrolyte balance.

How to Get Hydrated The Right Way

There are many ways to stay hydrated and ensure you have access to quality water, whether you're at home, at work, or traveling. I've outlined some options, along with recommended brands below.

If you're ready to take the next step in your wellness journey and improve your water quality, these resources will help guide you.

My number one recommendation is to invest in a high-quality water filter (or water bottle) for your home.

There are a variety of options available, including full-home systems, under-sink filters, fridge filters, and countertop units. You can find both high-end models and more budget-friendly options, so there's something for everyone. No matter which option you choose, upgrading your drinking water will have a significant impact on your health!

My personal choices and other recommended brands are dropped below. Check them out and reach out if you have any questions as you go.

#1 Recommendation: High- Quality Water Filter

I love experimenting with different combos, but my personal favorite is freezing lemon water into cubes and adding them to my water throughout the day. Not only does it refresh your water, but it also adds a dose of vitamin C and a small amount of electrolytes. I also make homemade teas, like pineapple green tea and hibiscus berry tea. Pineapple, for example, is rich in vitamin C and potassium, offering a mild electrolyte boost in your tea.

You can also add any of your favorite citrus fruits, like lemons, limes, or oranges, or try slicing up cucumber and ginger for an easy way to get electrolytes at home. Cucumber is hydrating and contains potassium, while ginger enhances flavor and supports overall health. This simple addition makes it easy to stay hydrated and nourish your body with electrolytes naturally

#2 Recommendation: Adding Fruits & Teas

If you're looking to supplement your hydration with extra electrolytes and minerals, there are several great options to consider. Fulvic acid is a natural compound that contains a wide range of minerals, helping your body absorb and utilize nutrients more effectively. It's often added to water or smoothies for an easy mineral boost.

Electrolyte mixes are another convenient option, providing a balance of key minerals like sodium, potassium, magnesium, and calcium—critical for maintaining hydration and supporting muscle function. These mixes come in various forms, from powders to tablets, and can be easily added to water throughout the day. if you do supplement, make sure there are no fillers/sugars/flavors added that will compromise the quality of your water.

By supplementing with these natural products, you can ensure that your body stays hydrated, replenished, and supported with the vital minerals it needs for optimal health.
